BIOGRAPHY

Alexa has spent her time developing her passions for leadership, life-sciences, and outreach throughout her six years in SLI. Surrounded by competitive peers, Alexa remained conscious of the disparities among students, leading her to found the Supporting Our Students (SOS) Club. As president, she set the foundation for and co-developed the Student Sanctuary website, which informs disadvantaged high schoolers about college, local opportunities, and student resources.

Alexa believes that the most meaningful use of her future would be to continue helping people in need. To satisfy this desire along with her interests in life-sciences, she indulged in medical-related activities by completing science and epidemiology courses at Mission College, joining Pre-Med Club, becoming the Director of Outreach and Social Media for Youth Leaders in Medicine (YLM), and becoming an ambassador for VaxTeen, helping to educate the youth about the importance of vaccines.

During the school year, Alexa acts as ASB Athletics Commissioner and enjoys playing for the basketball and volleyball team where she was Captain and MVP for both JV teams in 2019. At home, she spends her time building upon her hydroponic garden towers, learning more about herbal remedies, and tending to her indoor vegetable garden.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, Chevron, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
