During the past six years in the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (SLI), Hasitha has honed her design thinking skills and SLI core values. She has also participated in a wide range of competitions, from Synopsys Science Fair to Exploravision, due to the academic rigor of SLI. It was in these tracks where she found her love for innovation in assistive technology as well as the study of the brain, and she hopes to one day combine these two disciplines to find a future career.
As someone who is heavily involved in her community, Hasitha volunteers at Inclusive World, an organization that helps differently abled individuals learn vocational and collaborative skills. Since freshman year, she has led design media classes and worked on the marketing team. This past summer, Hasitha also worked as a camp counselor at Galileo and helped kindergarteners find their passion for STEM and innovation.
At school, Hasitha is part of numerous clubs and is co-president of Best Buddies. She is working towards creating an inclusive environment at SCHS. She has also played varsity basketball for four years and is excited for last year at SCHS!
