Determined, Sociable, Collaborative

"Sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith."

Steve Jobs

Now in his last year with the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (SLI), Hawk A. has shown an interest and passion for science from a very young age. Through his six years in SLI, he has gained essential STEM knowledge and soft skills in addition to access to technologies that are not available to the average student in Santa Clara Unified School District. Hawk enjoys robotics, working in teams, and biology. He has competed in FIRST robotics competitions for the last 5 years. These experiences have allowed him to learn about the several different fields of STEM and eventually lead to him consider a very specific career path. After graduating from high school, Hawk hopes to major in Biology and eventually to become an orthodontist. In his free time, he plays the Oud, a traditional Persian instrument, and plays tennis for his school.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, Chevron, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
