Now in his sixth year with the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (SLI), Nicholas has developed determination, indefatigable optimism, and a love for interacting with others. A few highlights of his time with SLI include an ExploraVision research project, in which he compared and contrasted Bay Area education systems with foreign ones; and an architectural tower that his team built for the San Jose Tech Museum's tech challenge. 


In his free time, Nicholas enjoys playing sports and hanging out with friends. He has found that these activities allow him to get out of his head and live in the moment; skills that he highly values, especially when trying to find a healthy work-life balance. Although he has faced various challenges and unique circumstances during this time in SLI, he is truly thankful for the program and deeply believes that it has helped in grow in both his technical and soft skills.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, Chevron, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
