SAMUEL"SAM" H.

Eccentric, Fun, Quick

"Just 'cause you're accurate does not mean you're interesting."

-John Mulaney

BIOGRAPHY

In addition to participating in the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute since 7th grade, Sam also has participated in journalism at his school and has produced stories for NPR's KQED's Youth Takeover for the last two years. His passion for mathematics and his desire to challenge himself with more public speaking has lead him to consider future careers in math education or mechanical engineering. He is the founder and president of the Santa Clara High School Board Game Club, where he and his fellow club members play board games once a week during lunch. He's found that entertainment and socializing is an excellent way to relieve stress during the school week. In his free time, you'll likely find Sam playing taiko drums at the San Jose Taiko studio, eating ramen, or watching stand-up comedy.

AWARDS & PROJECTS

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, Chevron, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
