Understanding, Creative, Hardworking

"Take the odds,

I'll keep dreaming."

- Kevin Abstract

Now in his sixth year with the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (SLI), Sid has evolved throughout the years to become an empathetic, perceptive, and dynamic leader, who persistently highlights the concept of mutual understanding with the world around him. Academically, Sid has taken on fifteen AP/honors courses, working hard and consistently venturing out of his comfort zone. He aspires to work both in Psychology and Neuroscience. In pursuing his desired career, he has engaged in programs such as Design the Future at Stanford University and EXPLO Psychology + Neuroscience at Yale University. In his projects, the common denominator has always been understanding people. Outside of academics, he has made an integral part of his life by participating as officers in several clubs such as UNICEF Club, Filmmaker’s Club, and Careers in Science. For fun, he participates in the varsity golf team and plays the alto saxophone in marching and symphonic band. Having studied both the alto saxophone and guitar for nine years, Sid participates in multiple music ensembles. In his free time, Sid volunteers, performs and writes music, embarks on impromptu escapades with friends and family, and watches movies.

EXPLO: Psychology & Neuroscience/ Student + Researcher

At the end of the summer program, Sid presented research investigating the efficacy of administering oxytocin via nasal spray on the behavioral and neurological rehabilitation of incarcerated inmates convicted of violent crimes with no prior history of mental illness.

DESIGN THE FUTURE: Leader, Builder, & Designer

Worked in a team to design solutions for a community member with cerebral palsy, to aid in his work efficiency and productivity. The program concluded with a live demonstration at an expo.

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, Chevron, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
