Optimistic, Witty, Practical
“I always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter.”
— Walt Disney
In her sixth year with the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (SLI), Vibha knows that she wants to pursue her passion for computer science. Through SLI, she has grown not only in technical skills like Computer-Aided Design, Scrum, and design thinking, but also in the program’s core values, especially leadership, communication, and risk-taking. Her personal development from SLI was best highlighted in her speech delivered at the 2017 49ers Winterfest Fundraiser to promote SLI; she described how the program transformed her from a shy, hesitant young girl into a bold, determined, and outspoken leader.
Outside of SLI, Vibha is heavily involved with Girls Who Code, a club that has inspired her to pursue CS, as well the club Girls Achieving in Non-Traditional Subjects (GAINS); she is currently the president of both. Alongside CS, she is also passionate about psychology, education, and female empowerment. Outside of academics, she participates in her school’s varsity girls’ tennis team. Vibha has also dedicated 9 years to Indian classical music, building her vocal control as well as her bond with her culture. In her free time, she enjoys singing, reading, playing card games, and watching TED Talks about obscure topics.
