YUNMO K.

Ponder, Deliberation, Determination

"All that glitters is not gold."

- William Shakespeare

BIOGRAPHY

Yunmo moved to Ohio from South Korea with his family when he was eleven years old. While he spent his first few years in the USA getting used to his new environment, he participated in a STEM class in 7th grade that had a very positive impact on him. A year later, he moved to California and discovered the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (SLI) operated out in a nearby school. With a good deal of curiosity and remembering his love for his 7th grade STEM class, he applied and was accepted to the program. Since then, he has explored many different STEM fields, built his soft skills, and been exposed to unique academic perspectives. SLI allowed him to jump straight into academic projects and present at public events that showcased these projects. SLI's high school FabLab afforded him space and equipment to explore creative possibilities, while honing his skills with many machines and tools. Throughout the years of teamwork and accomplishments, he has expanded both his experience and understanding in areas of STEM, in both technical skills and soft skills.

AWARDS & PROJECTS

The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, Chevron, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
