Romina is a hard-working student who is deeply passionate about STEM and has been a part of the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute at Santa Clara High School since 7th grade. Getting to thrive in such a supportive community, Romina has gotten to take advantage of numerous opportunities. She pursues her passion for engineering by being one of the leaders of AstroBruins, a local FIRST Tech Challenge team that won first place in Northern California and qualified for the World Championship.

Furthermore, Romina is dedicated to spreading STEM to underserved communities and currently leads the STEM Circle of Friends Program, which provides STEM opportunities to special education students at local elementary schools. At school, Romina has been the team captain of the swim team for the last two years and serves as co-president of Key Club, one of SCHS’s largest community service clubs. Through this experience, she has developed her leadership and team management skills.

Over the past summer, Romina interned as a biomedical researcher at Stanford University under Dr. Helms. She hopes to continue her research path in the bioengineering field throughout her next four years at Johns Hopkins University.
The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (49ers SLI) provides multi-year, year-round academic support, STEM enrichment, skills training, and leadership opportunities to students in middle and high school. Students, who are with the program for six years from 7th through 12th grade, commit annually to 300+ hours of program learning time in addition to their typical school hours. By cultivating student mastery in STEM subjects and in key skill areas, the program prepares students for college and empowers them to pursue their passions; so that they may become the well-rounded leaders of the future. The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute is made possible by the strong partnership between Silicon Valley Education Foundation, 49ers Foundation, Chevron, and the Santa Clara Unified School District.
